Setchu by Satoshi Kuwata wins 2023 LVMH Prize for Young Designers


Louis Vuitton has announced the winners of the tenth edition of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers.

Japanese designer, and founder of the genderless brand Setchu was awarded the LVMH Prize at a star studded ceremony held at the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris. Israeli actress Gal Gadot revealed the winner at in the presence of a jury featuring Maria Grazia Chiuri, Kim Jones, Nigo, Silvia Venturini Fendi, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Nicolas Ghesquiere and Jonathan Anderson. Kuwata won the grand prize of 400,000 euros, plus one year mentoring by a team of LVMH experts.

'I was a really naughty boy and my mom was really worried about me, and now I can make my mom really happy,' the 39-year-old designer said as he accepted the award from Gadot.

Ukrainian womenswear brand Bettter by Julie Pelipas and Italian menswear and genderless brand Magliano by Luca Magliano were the joint winners of the runner-up Karl Lagerfeld Special Jury Prize, presented by Chinese pop star Xin Liu. Both designers will receive 200,000 euros and will enjoy a one-year mentorship by the LVMH Group.

The jury has also decided to award the Karl Lagerfeld Prize both to Better for its cutting-edge upcycled creations, and Magliano a brand that champions casual and poetic designs. The eleventh edition of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers will be held in 2024.
