H & M collaborates for the first time with an African label


For the first time in its history, H & M is collaborating with an African brand.

The Swedish company is working together with the South African brand Mantsho to create a capsule collection. Titled 'Mantsho x H & M' the collection celebrates the elegance and dynamism of the continent. The designer capsule comprises of fifteen pieces such as dresses, skirts, tops and pants are characterized by loose cuts, intense patterns, and details such as ruffles and flounces. Prices range between 19.99 euros for a bag and 99.99 euros for a dress.


Mantsho was founded by designer Palesa Mokubung in 2004. The name which means 'Black is beautiful' uses traditional African materials which are locally produced and combines them with silk and fabrics to create versatile designs. The collections of Mokubung have been shown on catwalks in the US, Greece, India, Jamaica, Nigeria, Botswana and Senegal.

The 'Mantsho x H & M' collection will launch on August 15 in South African stores as well as in the H & M webshop and selected flagship stores worldwide.
