Model of the Week: Mick Estelle

Each week, we take the time to highlight one of our favorite emerging models. Last week, we profiled Dutch model Tes Linnenkoper and this week we're turning our attention to Mick Estelle. We caught up with her to talk about her career so far, her passion for modeling and her plans for the future.

Name: Mick Estelle
Birthday: 25.08.1997
Hometown: Trebesing/ Austria
Instagram: mickestelle

How were you scouted?

I joined the Elite Model Look Austria when I was 16. That was the first time I got in touch with this industry. However, I quit 6 months later. Luckily, I realized that I am still too young for this business and finishing art school was more important at this point. At 19 I moved to Berlin where I found my mother agency and, well, here I am.

How would you describe yourself as a model in three words?

Tall. Skinny. Boyish.

Your first modeling job?

A lookbook for a young designer.

What is your favorite or most exciting aspect about being a model?

The doors that it opens up. Having a stable financial background and enough time to work on one's own projects is quite luxurious as a young artist.

Is there anyone that you admire as a role model and why?

There are a lot of artists and thinkers that inspire me, but my father would be on the top of the list. The ease with which he handles the most challenging situations of life is something I strive for and haven't encountered in anybody else.

What's been your biggest OMG moment to date?

Falling in love. Every time it happens, whether it's a person, a landscape, a book, a thought or whatever really. Falling in love is a stunner. Every time.

What is your dream shoot/campaign?

I'd like to shoot more with animals. Maybe underwater with whales or sharks. Something like that.

Biggest lesson that modeling has taught you?

No matter who you are and what you stand for you better stay true to yourself and keep your values straight. I learned to accept and deal with rejection and that simply being me, all of me, ultimately attracts the kind of clients and people I vibe with into my schedule and into my life.

What's the best life advice you've ever received?

Life is damn short. Simple but efficient.

How do you stay in shape?

First of all, my definition of a perfect shape is a healthy and strong body not necessarily just being skinny. I love sports that are actually fun to me, bouldering for example or movements that have a strong mental aspect as well like Yoga. Dry exercise doesn't really work for me.

What do you think about fashion? What does it mean to you?

Fashion, like art, is a form of expressing oneself and it says a lot about who is the one underneath that fabric. Not always but most of the time somebody's clothes match that person's general attitude.

If you had to be head to toe in one designer brand for the rest of your life, which would it be?

That's gonna be Dior. There is a philosophy behind this brand that matches my own. It's a brand that encourages diversity and strong women. It's not so much about the way you look, it's about who you are.

How would you describe your style?

Ever changing. I don't like to limit myself.

Denim or leather?

Denim. Nobody dies.

Heels or flats?

FLAT. Heels were invented for guys like Napoleon not for tall women like me.

Vintage or contemporary fashion?

Vintage. Of course, I admire contemporary fashion design for its creativity, but I decided for myself that I don't want to participate in the ever-growing consumerism of our age and instead think about what it does to our ecosystems. Supporting more and more production is not going to help. Something I would love to see is more brands actually recycling fabric and raising awareness regarding the bigger picture. I'm sure it's going to come though.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Smoking

What's been your most indulgent purchase since you became a model?

I try to not buy things I don't need. Can't think of anything 'indulgent' I bought since I'm modeling. I'm quite minimalistic in that regard.

If you were an emoji, which would you be and why?

The flame. Everything that gets thrown in is used as fuel.

When you're not busy modeling, what are some of your favorite things to do?

Being in the countryside, on the farm, in the ateliers, around a bonfire with my loved ones, having a beer with my dad, that kind of stuff.

What are you working on now and what do you dream of happening in the future?

I'm trying to find a healthy balance between my private life as an artist and my work as a model. In the future, I hope to develop artistic strength so that I can start saying what needs to be said.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years' time?

Dead. I really try not to think too far into the future. It makes me believe it exists whilst at the end all I have is this very moment. Dreaming and waiting is sometimes the same thing.
