Virginie Viard succeeds Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel

Following the passing of Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel announced that Virginie Viard, Director of it's Fashion Creation Studio will succeed the late designer.

'Virginie Viard, Director of Chanel's Fashion Creation Studio and Karl Lagerfeld's closest collaborator for more than 30 years, has been entrusted by Alain Wertheimer with the creative work for the collections so that the legacy of Gabrielle Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld can live on,' Chanel said in its statement.

Dubbed Lagerfeld's 'right hand woman', Viard joined Chanel in 1987 and worked as an intern in charge of embroidery. In 1992 she followed him to Chloe but returned back to Chanel in 1997. She made an appearance alongside Lagerfeld at Chanel's October's show at the Grand Palais in Paris.
