Richard Phibbs is an American photographer and director based in New York City. He is best known for his fashion, beauty, and portrait photography.

Phibbs was born in San Francisco, California in 1971. He attended the University of California at Santa Cruz, where he studied photography and film. After graduating, he moved to New York City to pursue a career in photography.

Phibbs has worked with some of the world's most renowned fashion magazines, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, GQ, and W Magazine. His work has also been featured in campaigns for major brands such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, and Estee Lauder. He has photographed celebrities such as Madonna, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Robert De Niro.

In addition to his commercial work, Phibbs has also created several personal projects that explore themes of identity and belonging. His series "The American West" was exhibited at the International Center of Photography in New York City in 2008. His book "The Face: A Visual Odyssey" was published by Chronicle Books in 2009.

Phibbs has directed several short films that have been screened at film festivals around the world. In 2010 he directed a feature-length documentary about the life of legendary photographer Richard Avedon titled "Avedon: Darkness & Light". The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival and was released theatrically in 2011.

In addition to his photographic work, Phibbs is also an avid surfer and traveler who often documents his adventures through photographs and videos on social media platforms such as Instagram and YouTube.
