Paolo Caponetto is an Italian photographer and visual artist based in Milan. He has been working in the field of photography since the early 2000s, and his work has been featured in numerous publications, exhibitions, and festivals around the world.

Born in Milan in 1978, Paolo Caponetto developed a passion for photography at an early age. He studied photography at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera in Milan, where he graduated with honors. After graduating, he began to work as a freelance photographer for various magazines and newspapers.

In 2006, Paolo Caponetto was awarded the prestigious World Press Photo Award for his series “The Other Side of Life” which documented the lives of people living on the outskirts of Rome. This series was also exhibited at several galleries around Europe and was published as a book by Contrasto Books.

Since then, Paolo Caponetto has continued to explore themes such as identity, memory, and belonging through his photography. His work has been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times Magazine, National Geographic Magazine, Le Monde Magazine, and many others. He has also exhibited his work at galleries such as Palazzo Reale di Milano and Fondazione Prada in Milan; Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo in Turin; MAXXI Museum in Rome; and many more. In addition to this, he has participated in several international festivals such as Les Rencontres d’Arles (France), PhotoEspaña (Spain), Photolux Festival (Italy), and more.

Paolo Caponetto’s photographs have been collected by institutions such as The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City; The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) in New York City; The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) in London; The National Gallery of Canada (NGC) in Ottawa; The Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BNF) in Paris; and many more.

Today Paolo Caponetto continues to explore themes related to identity through his photography while also teaching workshops on photography around Europe.
