Gilles began his career as a freelance photographer in the late 1980s, shooting for magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, and GQ. He quickly gained recognition for his unique style of photography which focused on capturing the beauty of everyday life. His work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.

In addition to his photography work, Gilles has also directed several short films which have been screened at film festivals around the world.
