Dan Martensen is an American photographer and director based in New York City. He is best known for his fashion and celebrity photography, having shot for publications such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, GQ, and Vanity Fair.

Martensen was born in Los Angeles in 1975. He grew up in a creative family, with his father being a professional photographer and his mother an artist. From a young age he was exposed to the world of photography and art, which inspired him to pursue a career in the field.

Martensen attended the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California where he studied photography and film. After graduating in 1998 he moved to New York City to pursue his career as a professional photographer.

In 2000 Martensen began shooting for magazines such as Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, GQ, and Vanity Fair. His work has been featured on the covers of these magazines as well as many others. He has also shot campaigns for brands such as Gucci, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Dior, and Calvin Klein.

In addition to his fashion photography work Martensen has also directed music videos for artists such as The Killers and The Strokes. He has also directed commercials for brands such as Nike and Adidas.

Martensen's work has been exhibited at galleries around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London. His photographs have been published in books such as "The Big Picture" (2005) and "The Moment" (2008).

Martensen continues to shoot fashion editorials for magazines around the world while also directing music videos and commercials for various brands.
