About

Ana Hernández is a Mexican photographer and visual artist based in Mexico City. She is best known for her work exploring the relationship between people and their environment, often through the lens of social and political issues.

Hernández was born in Mexico City in 1985. She studied photography at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, where she graduated with a degree in Visual Arts in 2009. After graduating, she began working as a freelance photographer, shooting for magazines and newspapers such as El Universal, Reforma, and La Jornada.

In 2011, Hernández was awarded a grant from the Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA) to pursue her own photographic projects. Since then, she has traveled extensively throughout Mexico and Latin America to document social issues such as migration, poverty, and violence. Her work has been exhibited internationally at venues such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Monterrey in Mexico.

Hernández's photographs have been featured in publications such as The New York Times Magazine, The Guardian, Time Magazine, National Geographic Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal. In 2017 she was named one of PDN's 30 Emerging Photographers to Watch by Photo District News magazine.

Hernández is currently working on a long-term project about migration along the US-Mexico border that will be published as a book later this year.
