Karl Lagerfeld to be honored with major retrospective at the Met

Karl Lagerfeld is set to be honored with a large retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

The exhibition which is scheduled for 2022 is being planned by Andrew Bolton, Chief Curator of the Costume Institute. Much is not known at this point except that the exhibition will be devoted entirely to Lagerfeld and will provide an extraordinary overview of his work. For more than six decades Lagerfeld made fashion history labels such as Chanel, Fendi, and Chloe. On top of that, he also made a name for himself as a photographer, filmmaker and product designer. This will be the first major retrospective of the designer in the respected New York museum.

The retrospective on Lagerfeld at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York makes sense not only with regard to his influential work but also because he had a long history with the Met. His latest Metiers d'Art show for Chanel, which had an Egyptian theme, was held by the designer in the museum at the ancient temple of Dendur in December 2018.

Next year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art will celebrate its 150th anniversary with exhibitions and events for audiences in the U.S. and around the world.
