- Gia was a girl in pain, desperate for her mother's approval and a drug addict on a tragic slide toward oblivion, who started going directly from $10,000-a-day fashion shoots to the heroin shooting galleries on New York's Lower East Side. In 1982 she attempted a comeback after her battle with heroin addiction.
- She was in Blondie's 'Atomic' music video.
- At twenty-six on November 18 1986, she became one of the first women in America to die of AIDS.
- There is a biography "Thing of Beauty" written by Stephen Fried and a biographical film named 'Gia' (1998), with Angelina Jolie playing Gia.
