Tyler Mitchell is an American photographer and filmmaker based in Brooklyn, New York. He is best known for being the first African-American photographer to shoot a cover for Vogue magazine, featuring Beyoncé.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1994, Mitchell grew up with a passion for photography. He began taking pictures at the age of 12 and was soon shooting for local publications. After graduating from high school, he attended New York University's Tisch School of the Arts where he studied photography and film.

In 2018, Mitchell made history when he was chosen to shoot the cover of Vogue magazine featuring Beyoncé. This marked the first time an African-American photographer had been chosen to shoot a cover for the publication. His work has since been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times Magazine, TIME Magazine, and W Magazine.

In addition to his photography work, Mitchell has also directed music videos for artists such as Solange Knowles and Blood Orange. He has also directed short films which have been featured at festivals such as Sundance Film Festival and Toronto International Film Festival.

Mitchell's work has earned him numerous awards including the International Center of Photography Infinity Award in 2019 and the Gordon Parks Foundation Fellowship in 2020. He continues to push boundaries with his photography and filmmaking work while inspiring other young photographers around the world.
