About

Ming Nomchong is an award-winning Australian photographer and filmmaker. She is best known for her vibrant and emotive portraiture, which often explores themes of identity, culture, and the environment.

Born in Melbourne in 1988, Ming grew up surrounded by art and creativity. Her parents were both artists, and she was encouraged to explore her own creative passions from a young age. She began taking photographs at the age of 12, and quickly developed a passion for capturing the beauty of the world around her.

Ming studied photography at RMIT University in Melbourne, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 2011. After university she worked as a freelance photographer for several years before launching her own studio in 2014. Since then she has become one of Australia’s most sought-after photographers, shooting for clients such as Vogue Australia, The New York Times Magazine, and National Geographic.

In addition to her commercial work, Ming has also produced several short films exploring themes of identity and belonging. Her work has been exhibited internationally at galleries such as the National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney. In 2018 she was awarded the prestigious William & Winifred Bowness Photography Prize for her series ‘The Longest Distance’.

Ming currently lives and works in Melbourne with her partner and two children. She continues to explore new ways to capture beauty through photography and film, pushing boundaries with each new project she takes on.
