About

Fynch-Hatton is a brand that emerged from an inspiring story of a man's journey to Africa and his love for adventure. The British aristocrat, Denys Finch Hatton, chose a path less travelled, moving away from the conventions of his noble upbringing to explore the unknown African wilderness. Born to aristocracy and educated at the prestigious Eton College, Denys was faced with a choice in the early 20th century - either to reclaim his lost family fortune in England or to embark on a new adventure.

In 1911, at the age of 24, Denys made a decision that would shape his life. He ventured on a trip to South Africa, a continent unfamiliar to him but captivating nonetheless. Later that year, he used a small fortune left to him by his uncle to buy a farm in what is now Kenya. Without any prior knowledge but filled with a zest for adventure, he began to spend a significant portion of his life in Africa. Here, he was not just a farmer but a big-game hunter, a safari guide, a bush pilot, and is famously known as the lover of Karen Blixen, whose relationship with him inspired the film "Out of Africa".

The inception of Fynch-Hatton as a brand was influenced by this very spirit of exploration and love for Africa. The brand was established by Roger Brandts, a young German who was inspired by the life of Denys Finch Hatton and the allure of Africa. Brandts learnt about Denys while on a practicum in South Africa and was captivated by the film "Out of Africa" that came out around the same time.

Brandts named the company Fynch-Hatton as a tribute to Denys Finch Hatton, who impressed him with his independence, adventurous spirit, and love for freedom. Despite the high competition and initial difficulties in convincing buyers and suppliers, Brandts, with the help of his small initial team, persevered and remained steadfast in his vision.

Over time, Fynch-Hatton began to establish itself. With the expansion of the product range, the Fynch-Hatton team grew, transforming Brandts' idea into a successful, distinct fashion brand. The brand's logo is the umbrella acacia, a tree typical of the African savanna, reflecting its roots and inspiration. Their goal has always been to embody the spirit of adventure that Denys Finch Hatton represented. The product range has consistently expanded over the last 20 years, from knitwear to a total look, offering everything a man needs to be well-dressed. Today, Fynch-Hatton products, ranging from shirts, trousers to shoes, are available in around 55 countries and through their online store. Their promise to their customers is to offer stylish, high-quality, and versatile fashion at a fair price, while remaining flexible and honest, and never fearing adventures.
