Giorgio Armani renounces the use of real fur

Luxury fashion designer Giorgio Armani has announced his intention to renounce the use of real animal fur in favor of synthetic materials.

Taking a stand against animal cruelty, the Italian fashion house will no longer use real animal fur in the up-coming Giorgio Armani, Armani Prive or Emporio Armani collections.

'I am pleased to announce that the Armani Group has made a firm commitment to abolish the use of animal fur in its collections,' Armani said in a statement. 'Technological progress made over the years allows us to have valid alternatives at our disposition that render the use of cruel practices unnecessary as regards animals. Pursuing the positive process undertaken long ago, my company is now taking a major step ahead, reflecting our attention to the critical issues of protecting and caring for the environment and animals.'

The move by the Armani group follows in the footsteps of Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger who have all decided to favor the use of synthetic materials.
