Matthieu Blazy is Bottega Veneta's new creative director

Italian luxury goods house Bottega Veneta has appointed Matthieu Blazy as its new creative director with immediate effect.

The announcement comes after Daniel Lee abruptly stepped down last week from his role which he had held since 2018. Blazy's appointment comes as no surprise since he was Lee's number two as Bottega Veneta's RTW Design Director since mid-2020.

A graduate of La Cambre in Brussels, the French/Belgian national, started his fashion career as Men's Designer for Raf Simons and thereafter at Maison Martin Margiela. In 2014, he joined Celine as a Senior Designer working closely under Phoebe Philo. From 2016 to 2019 he worked again with Raf Simons at Calvin Klein.

'Matthieu Blazy is an extraordinarily talented individual, whom I am proud and excited to entrust with the creative helm of our luxury House. Bottega Veneta has always been equated with signature craftsmanship and distinctive creativity. Matthieu's appointment will further enhance the modern relevance of our brand and accelerate our growth, while preserving the values that are at the core of Bottega Veneta,' Leo Rongone, CEO of Bottega Veneta, said in a press release.

'The very solid foundations, specific codes and unique identity of Bottega Veneta enable us to nurture great ambitions for the future of this luxury House. I am confident that Matthieu Blazy's wealth of experience and broad cultural background will allow him to bring his creative impetus to the task of carrying on the legacy of Bottega Veneta,' Francois-Henri Pinault, Chairman & CEO of Kering, stated.

Blazy's first collection for Bottega Veneta will be shown in February 2022 at Milan Fashion Week.
