Marc By Marc Jacobs To Be Discontinued

Just days after announcing a worldwide model call for the new faces of its campaign, Marc by Marc Jacobs is shutting down. The line which was launched in spring 2001 under the creative direction of Katie Hillier and Luella Bartley will be absorbed into Jacobs' primary luxury line.

WWD reported today that Marc Jacobs "will encompass a range of merchandise and price points currently divided between the two lines" which will "unify all products with a clarity of voice and aesthetic, and ultimately, to expand the product offerings."

The restructuring is similar to what Dolce & Gabbana did with its lower priced D&G line in 2011, discontinuing it as a standalone brand but expanding the mainline product offering to include lower price points and a larger range of products.

The role of creative director Katie Hillier and women's design director Luella Bartley, remains unclear. An official announcement from the brand is awaited.
