Varumo was born in Helsinki in 1983 and grew up surrounded by the beauty of the Finnish landscape. From an early age, he was drawn to photography as a way to capture the beauty of his surroundings. After graduating from high school, he studied photography at the University of Art and Design Helsinki. During this time, he developed a passion for capturing the natural world around him.

After graduating from university, Varumo began working as a freelance photographer. His work has been featured in numerous publications including National Geographic, The Guardian, and The New York Times Magazine. He has also exhibited his work in galleries around Europe and North America.
