About

Maurice Scheltens is a Dutch photographer and artist based in Amsterdam. He is best known for his highly stylized, often abstracted photographs of everyday objects and scenes. His work has been featured in numerous publications, including The New York Times Magazine, Vogue, and Wallpaper*.

Born in the Netherlands in 1971, Scheltens studied photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. After graduating in 1995, he began working as a freelance photographer for various magazines and advertising campaigns. In 2000, he co-founded the photography studio Scheltens & Abbenes with his partner Liesbeth Abbenes. Together they have created award-winning images for clients such as Nike, Apple, and Prada.

In addition to commercial work, Scheltens has also produced a number of personal projects over the years. His series “Objects” (2005) features close-up shots of everyday items such as books and toys that are transformed into abstract compositions through his use of light and shadow. His series “The City” (2008) captures the beauty of urban landscapes from around the world.

Scheltens’ work has been exhibited internationally at galleries and museums including FOAM Amsterdam, Fotografiska Stockholm, and The Photographers’ Gallery London. He has also been awarded several prestigious prizes including the Dutch Doc Award (2006), International Photography Award (2007), and Prix de la Photographie Paris (2009).
