Marianna Rothen is a Swiss-born photographer and filmmaker whose work focuses on the female experience. She has traveled extensively, capturing the lives of women in countries around the world. Her work has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, and National Geographic.

Rothen was born in Zurich, Switzerland in 1983. She studied photography at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Lucerne, Switzerland before moving to London to pursue her career as a photographer. In London she worked for several years as a freelance photographer before launching her own studio in 2011.

Rothen’s work often focuses on themes of identity, femininity, and motherhood. She has photographed women from all walks of life—from mothers living in rural India to female entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley—and her images capture both the beauty and strength of these women. Her photographs have been exhibited around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

In addition to her photography work, Rothen is also an accomplished filmmaker. Her films have been screened at festivals such as Cannes Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival, and she has won numerous awards for her work including Best Documentary Feature at the Tribeca Film Festival for her film “The Uncondemned” (2015).

Rothen currently lives between Zurich and Los Angeles with her husband and two children. She continues to travel extensively for both personal projects and commercial assignments, capturing stories that explore themes of identity, femininity, motherhood, and more.
