About

Joanna Piotrowska is a Polish photographer and visual artist based in London. She graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2012 with an MA in Photography. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Museum of Modern Art in Warsaw, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Modern in London.

Piotrowska's work focuses on themes of identity, gender, and power dynamics. She often uses her own body as a subject to explore these themes, creating images that are both intimate and confrontational. Her photographs are often staged with props or costumes to create surreal scenes that explore her ideas about identity and power.

Piotrowska has received numerous awards for her work, including the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize (2018), the Foam Paul Huf Award (2017), and the Magnum Graduate Photographers Award (2012). In addition to her photographic practice, she has also published two books: "The Black Eye" (2015) and "Rite of Passage" (2018).

Piotrowska's work has been featured in publications such as The New Yorker, The Guardian, Vogue Italia, Dazed & Confused Magazine, and The British Journal of Photography. She is represented by galleries such as Tiwani Contemporary in London and Galerie Les Filles du Calvaire in Paris.
