David Paul Vail is an American photographer and visual artist based in New York City. He is best known for his vibrant and colorful photographs of urban landscapes, street scenes, and cityscapes.

Vail was born in New York City in 1975. He grew up in a creative family, with his father being a professional photographer and his mother an artist. From a young age, Vail was exposed to the world of art and photography, which inspired him to pursue a career in the field.

Vail attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City where he earned his Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in photography. After graduating, he began working as a freelance photographer for various publications including The New York Times Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and National Geographic.

In addition to his commercial work, Vail has also developed an impressive portfolio of personal projects that explore themes such as urban decay, gentrification, and the changing face of cities around the world. His work has been exhibited at galleries across the United States and Europe including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City.

Vail's photographs have been featured in numerous books including "The Urban Landscape" (2008), "New York: A Photographic Journey" (2009), and "The Changing Face of Cities" (2010). He has also been recognized with several awards including the International Photography Award for Best Series (2009) and the Lucie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Fine Art Photography (2011).
