Dario Calmese is an American photographer, filmmaker, and creative director based in New York City. He is best known for his work in fashion and beauty photography, as well as his unique approach to portraiture.

Calmese was born in South Carolina and raised in the Bronx, New York. He attended the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, where he earned a BFA in Photography. After graduating, he began working as a freelance photographer for various publications including Vogue Italia, GQ Magazine, and The New York Times Magazine.

In 2020, Calmese was named the first Black Creative Director of Vogue US. His appointment marked a major milestone for diversity within the fashion industry. In this role, he has worked to create more inclusive images of beauty and to challenge traditional notions of what it means to be beautiful.

In addition to his work at Vogue US, Calmese has also collaborated with numerous brands including Nike, Apple Music, and Gucci. His work has been featured in exhibitions around the world including at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City and the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) in London.
