Ashley Graham fronts the January '17 issue of British Vogue.
Marking her first cover for the Fashion Bible, the 28-year-old plus size model was lensed by Patrick Demarchelier
. Wearing a leather-studded jacket by Coach and a plain white V-neck shirt, Graham looks at the camera. She accessorized the look with large earrings and open hair.
Graham took to Instagram to announce the happy news in a post of the cover with the caption 'What an absolute honor! My first #vogue cover!! Thank you to everyone at @britishvogue! 💥🙌🏽💥#covergirl #beautybeyondsize #liveyourdreams'
According to Vogue editor-in-chief Alexandra Shulman chose Graham to front the first issue of 2017 not because of her size but because she is articulate, has an opinion worth listening to, and an infectious energy that anyone who has worked with her in the fashion industry will attest to.
In her accompanying interview with Vogue contributing editor Christa D'Souza, Graham spoke enthusiastically on the subject of size, her experiences relating to it and s well as Graham's tireless commitment to a more positive body image. 'For 10 years I'd been told I was always going to be a catalogue girl, never a cover girl. Well, I got with IMG and did five covers in a year, boom, boom, boom. See, if you have a pretty face doors will open, but your job isn't just to walk through them, it's to get invited back,'
she told D'Souza. 'Look, I hit the beauty jackpot, I get it, but that's not enough, you've got to have more to have longevity in this business. It's always been, 'OK, so what can I do now?'
