Stella McCartney unveils Summer 2022 collection with Campaign featuring Natalia Vodianova

British designer Stella McCartney has unveiled her Summer 2022 collection with a stellar campaign featuring Supermodel, philanthropist, UN ambassador and long-time Stella collaborator Natalia Vodianova.

Titled 'Mushrooms are the Future' the campaign was lensed by iconic creative duo Mert and Marcus at the Marqueyssac gardens in the South of France and at the Espace Niemeyer in Paris which was also the venue for the brands' the Summer 2022 runway show. Vodianova appears sporting key looks from the new collection such as a Hallucinogenic Cut Out Top and Scuba Platform Sandals, Cut-Out Jumpsuit and Frayme Shoulder Bag, Transparent Crystal Maxi Dress and Frayme Small Flap Shoulder Bag. The images takes one on a psychedelic trip into nature with the space offering the sense of being in a mushroom cap, an iconic nod to Oscar Niemeyer's artistic expression and openness.

The new Summer 2022 ready-to-wear and accessories collection was inspired by the documentary film 'Fantasic Fungi', and celebrates fungi as the future not only of fashion, but our planet. Key pieces include trousers, shrunken waistcoats, deconstructed corsets, knit tops and form-fitting dresses featuring textural fabrics like mesh, hand-drawn mushroom prints, piped necklines inspired by astronaut cooling tubes, bold cut-out details, parachute-like accents, and neon hues.

The highlight of the capsule is the Mylo Frayme bag that was first presented at the Summer 2022 runway show. Available later this season in limited quantity, it is the world's first-ever luxury bag crafted exclusively from a certified bio-based mycelium (mushroom leather) alternative.

Altogether, the collection evokes a sensual femininity, encouraging Stella women to redefine sexiness with an effortless, vibrant wardrobe. It harmonizes billowing shapes with bodycon silhouettes, near-transparent airiness with rich textures and biophilic cut-outs on psychedelic prints.

'If we want to save all our skins from the consequences of the climate and biodiversity crises, we need to stop fashion's use of animal leather and furs. Mushrooms present a vegan alternative that can be grown regeneratively, renewably and quickly. How can you not be obsessed with these fantastic fungi,' said Stella.
