Paul Surridge is the new creative director of Roberto Cavalli

Following Peter Dundas's departure after only a one-year collaboration, Roberto Cavalli has found his successor.

The italian fashion house announced that British designer Paul Surridge will be its new creative director. Surridge who trained at Central Saint Martins, began his career with Calvin Klein in the 90s. In 2003 he moved to Burberry, working under Christopher Bailey, and joined Raf Simons' team at Jil Sander in 2007 as the designer of menswear. From 2011 to 2014 he was creative director of Z Zegna, the more sporty line of Ermenegildo Zegna, most recently he worked as a Creative Consultant for Acne Studios and also concentrated on menswear.

In essence, a large part of Surridge's design work deals with menswear, which is one of the reasons why Roberto Cavallis chose him as its creative director.

'I am honoured and proud to carry forward the legacy of this extraordinary Italian house,' said Surridge in a statement. 'This is a unique opportunity to contribute a new chapter to the Roberto Cavalli universe, which positively celebrates the beauty, sensuality and power of women. It is my intention to show the passion that I share for the codes and vision on which Roberto Cavalli built his brand while celebrating the excellence of Italian craftsmanship.'

Cavalli CEO Gian Giacomo Ferraris described him as a 'great team player,' and praised his '360-degree vision of brands'.

Surridge will present his debut collection (spring / summer 2018) for Roberto Cavalli in September 2017.
