Newsmaker Of The Week: Marco Gobbetti


Our Newsmaker this week is Marco Gobbetti.

The luxury veteran was recently appointed Chief Executive Officer by British luxury brand Burberry, a position that was held by Christopher Bailey since May 2014. With more than 20 years experience in the luxury sector, Gobbetti has worked on brands such as Moschino, Bottega Veneta and Givenchy and has a proven track record for growing and turning around struggling fashion brands.

Gobbetti a management expert has a degree in Business Administration from the American University of Washington and a Masters in International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management in Phoenix, Arizona. He made his foray into fashion by starting as a sales director at Bottega Veneta a role he later left to became Managing Director of Italian leather goods brand Valextra. He also served as the Chief Executive Officer of Moschino from 1993. From 2004 to 2008 he served as the President, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Givenchy SA.

While he currently serves as chairman and CEO of LVMH-owned fashion and accessories brand Celine, Gobbetti is expected to take up his new role at Burberry in 2017 and will be responsible for all commercial, operational and financial elements of the business.
