Newsmaker Of The Week : Brittany Beattie

Brittany Beattie, the winner of this year's Australia's Next Top Model is our Newsmaker this week.

The 21-year-old self-confessed "tomboy" had a troubled upbringing couch-surfing at age 16 until she landed a job driving bobcats. On the insistence of a family friend entered the contest and was portrayed as an underdog throughout the series. But despite having zero experience with photoshoots or even walking in heels, scored solid marks in every episode as a contestant ultimately beating out Queenslander Lucy Markovic. She scored top marks in episode three when the girls had to style themselves for the Jean Paul Gaultier exhibition in Melbourne, and model in couture gowns for a photoshoot. Not only did Brittany win the challenge that week, but she also had the top score.

Beattie made her magazine debut appearing in her first fashion editorial for the 2015 August issue of Elle Australia with a stunning 8 page shoot, which proves that she has much more than meets the eye and she's defintely Elle material. In an accompanying interview with the magazine, she discussed all the ways winning Australia's Next Top Model has changed her life saying that being an ELLE girl is a major deal. 'I never thought a girl who spends her days working in the dirt would be able to do any of this - never did I think that I would be lucky enough get paid to model clothes that I only dreamed of wearing!' she says.

'Both Lucy and Britt were great finalists with very different looks, but for me Britt stood out party because her look is so modern and effortlessly cool... but also because she has a unique story to tell. There's something incredibly endearing about her that I think the fashion industry will embrace whole-heartedly,' said ELLE editor-in-chief Justine Cullen.

Having already walked for Jean Paul Gaultier, she was selected for his AW15 show in Paris. Along with a one-year modelling contract with IMG Sydney, she also bagged a $20,000 prize from Tresemme, the opportunity to be part of New York Fashion Week and a brand new Mazda 2 Genki. She's also just been signed by Australian street label One Teaspoon, and will appear on giant billboards in LA.

With all of her accomplishments so far there's no doubt that Britt will be smouldering and voguing her way to the top of the fashion industry. Check out Britt's Gorgeous Elle Magazine Editorial and check back next week to find out who our next Newsmaker is.
