The Cartier Tank watch of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis is set to go on auction at Christie's New York Rare Watches and American Icons sale on June 21.
The historical piece was a gift from her brother-in-law Prince Stanislaw "Stas" Radziwill, which he gave to her in 1963. It was in commemoration of the 50-Mile Hike in Palm Beach with the dedication 'Stas to Jackie February 23, 1963 2:05 am to 9:35 pm.'
Accompanying the watch is an original painting that Kennedy made herself and gifted in exchange to Stas with the dedication 'Jackie to Stas with love and admiration.'
According to Christie's the watch and the accompanying painting, were previously unknown to the public. They are two important historic artifacts to surface in recent years 'from the golden era of the Kennedy Presidency'. Both items are estimated to reach a price between $ 60,000 and $ 120,000.
