Is Hedi Slimane Leaving Saint Laurent?

Hedi Slimane is rumored to depart Saint Laurent, according to a new report by WWD.

The designer is believed to have failed to reach an agreement on the renewal of his contract with the fashion house. Furthermore, it is said that Saint Laurent has identified a successor and is reportedly in talks with Anthony Vaccarello, creative director of Versus Versace of just one year and his namesake label.

If true, this will mark Slimane's second exit from Yves Saint Laurent and the fourth creative director to leave a reputed French fashion house since Alexander Wang exited Balenciaga in July last year. 2015 saw three major French houses Balenciaga, Christian Dior, and Lanvin - all of which lost their creative directors, with only Balenciaga having named a replacement, Demna Gvasalia. The rumors of Slimane's departure also come in light of Saint Laurent's recent announcement that Slimane will stage his Fall 2016 men's collection in Los Angeles instead of Paris.

Slimane has been credited with turning YSL into a commercial blockbuster, more than doubling it's profits by the revving up he did with his rock 'n' roll inspired fashions, finding new factories, redesigning the leather goods business, overhauling Saint Laurent's stores, incorporating his own photography and bringing couture back.
