Chanel\'s Metiers d\'Art collection homages ancient egypt

Chanel paid homage to the Egyptian era during its Metiers d'Art fashion show which was presented last week at the Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET) in New York City.

New York was selected as the location for the show because it was the first country outside France to welcome the work of Coco Chanel with open arms. The show was dominated by Hieroglyphs, golden goddesses and the finest embroidery.

An Egyptian army of models showcased 85 looks from Karl's new couture collection as they walked through the Temple of Dendur - the ancient Egyptian monument gifted to the Metropolitan Museum fifty years ago.

Rapper Pharrell Williams walked the runway dressed from head-to-toe in gold fused with modern sportswear and Chanel tweedy classics. There were also Dutch models dominated the show Yasmin Wijnaldum, Marjan Jonkman, Luna Bijl, Birgit Kos, Felice Noordhof, Michelle van Bijnen, Sara Dijkink, Lauren De Graaf and Romy Schonberger.

The beauty looks of blue, white, black, golden variants were inspired by the beauty of the Egyptian queen Cleopatra with the eyeliner that the models wore more than noteworthy. With jewelry playing an important part in the show, Karl Lagerfeld collaborated with his favorite jeweler and goldsmith Goossens with the result being large gold earrings, bracelets, and decolletes that were lavishly decorated with necklaces bearing the Chanel logo.

The show saw a slew of guests including model Lily-Rose Depp who appeared seated on the front row along others such as Julianne Moore, Penelope Cruz, Christy Turlington, Diane Kruger, Blake Lively, and many more celebrities.
