Phoebe Philo is making a comeback with her own label backed by LVMH

Pheobe Philo is returning to fashion.

The British designer and former creative director of Celine and Chloe will be launching a new brand under her own name with luxury conglomerate LVMH.

The brand will offer clothing and accessories and although backed by LVMH (who has a minority stake) it will be independent from the luxury behemoth that owns brands like Louis Vuitton, Dior and Givenchy. The announcement comes after months of rumors that Philo was building a team in London for a new venture.

Prior to the announcement there was speculation that she would join Chanel or fill the late Azzedine Alaia's shoes. Philo had made a semi return as a guest member of the jury at the prestigious French 2021 ANDAM Awards.

'Being in my studio and making once again has been both exciting and incredibly fulfilling. I am very much looking forward to being back in touch with my audience and people everywhere. To be independent, to govern and experiment on my own terms is hugely significant to me. I have had a very constructive and creative working relationship with LVMH for many years so, it is a natural progression for us to reconnect on this new project. I have greatly appreciated discussing new ideas with Bernard Arnault and Delphine Arnault, and I am delighted to be embarking on this adventure with their support,' Philo said in a statement.

'We have known her and appreciated her for a long time. Phoebe contributed to the success of the group through her magnificent creations over several years. With this in mind, I am very happy to partner with Phoebe on her entrepreneurial adventure and wish her great success,' LVMH chairman and chief executive Bernard Arnault added.

The news of Philo launching her own fashion brand will delight devoted followers (known as Philophiles) of her work at Celine and Chloe. Her style which has been described as chic, timeless, feminine and refined marked the 2000s and offered women an aesthetic that was minimalist but in a more playful way than Jil Sander's cool designs.

As of yet there is no official date of when the brand will launch but more details are expected to be made available in January 2022.
