Louis Vuitton is producing hospital gowns and masks for healthcare workers

After last month's announcement that it would produce free hand sanitizer gel for French hospitals to help fight Coronavirus, Louis Vuitton will be reopening its workshops in France to produce hospital gowns and masks for healthcare workers.

The LVMH owned French luxury label will assist the French government in the global fight against Coronavirus by producing several hundred thousand non-surgical masks in several of its workshops (Marsaz and Saint-Donat in Drome, Conde (Indre), Saint-Pourcain (Allier), Ducey in Manche and Sainte-Florence in Vendee). The masks have been designed in collaboration with the regional textile company Mode Grand Ouest and have received approval from the various authorities.

'We're ramping up to make over 100,000 a week just at Vuitton,' said Michael Burke, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton during a visit to the Sainte-Florence workshop. 'They're skeleton crews. You have to start slow. That's why out of the 4,500, there's only about 400 that are in those 12 sites. About 10 percent of the workforce is back.'


In addition, Louis Vuitton will also be producing hospital gowns/overalls for the Assistance Publique - Hopitaux de Paris hospitals. The pieces will be distributed to the healthcare workers of six hospitals of the AP-HP who are involved in the care of sick patients.
