Kering appoints Emma Watson, Jean Liu Qing and Tidjane Thiam as Directors

Global Luxury Fashion group Kering has appointed Actress and activist Emma Watson, Businessman Tidjane Thiam, and entrepreneur Jean Liu as Directors.

The announcement was made earlier this week and marks its first steps in pursuing a new policy that focuses not only on diversity but also sustainability. The appointments were approved by Kering's shareholders during the Group's Annual General Meeting as proposed by the Board of Directors in March.

Watson has also been appointed Chairman of the Sustainability Committee and Tidjane Thiam will also serve as Chairman of the Audit Committee. According to the luxury conglomerate, the combined wealth of experience and skillsets of Watson, Qing, and Thiam will be complementary assets to its Group and will not only enhance the quality of the work done by the Board of Directors but also define the Group's strategic orientations.

'I am delighted to welcome Jean Liu, Tidjane Thiam, and Emma Watson to our Board of Directors. Their respective knowledge and competences, and the multiplicity of their backgrounds and perspectives will be invaluable additions to Kering's Board of Directors. The collective intelligence that comes from diverse points of view and the richness of different experiences are crucial to the future of our organization. I am proud to add such impressive talents to the team,' Francois-Henri Pinault, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Kering said in a press statement.

Of the three appointees, Thiam and Liu are the only people with a non-European background on the council. A black entrepreneur born in Ivory Coast, Thiam served as Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse Group AG between 2015 and 2020. Jean Liu is the President of DiDi Women's Network - a career development and personal growth program for female professionals as well as Didi Chuxing - the world's largest multi-modal mobile transportation platform.

Watson on the other hand needs no introduction and is not only a successful actress but also an activist. She is a pioneer in advocating for sustainable fashion and is a supporter of Good On You, a mobile app that allows consumers to check the sustainability credentials of clothing brands. Since 2014 she has been a Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations for women's rights and gender equality.
