Birkenstock launches new 1774 line

Birkenstock has launched its first 1774 collection.

Created in collaboration with luxury retailer Matchesfashion and artist Amalia Ulman, the unisex collection comprises of its cult bestsellers Arizona, Milano, Madrid and Siena, available in 5 colors: grass green, cobalt blue, mustard yellow, black and white. A total of 15 different models are available. Embellished with luxurious details, the bright shades of the shoes are suitable for all seasons.

Overall the collection pays tribute to the history of the German brand. The name of the collection is a symbolic date: the one when Johann Adam Birkenstock launched his family shoe business. Almost a century later, Konrad Birkenstock - grandson of Johann Adam - imagined the first model of the claw, a comfortable shoe, designed to support the foot orthopedically. Adopted by the fashion world around the world, the Birkenstock sandal is now an essential that nobody seems to do without.

The brand presented the collection at the Frieze art fair in Los Angeles instead of showing at one of the big fashion weeks. It was presented with great fanfare in the presence of Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Usher all of whom wore sandals from the collection. A pop-up shop was also to be seen as part of the Frieze Art Fairs in Los Angeles.

Priced at around 350 euros the Birkenstock 1774 collection is available now exclusively on Matches Fashion and will be available worldwide from March 1.
