Franziska Knuppe - model of the month - December

Supermodel Franziska Knuppe is best known for being the muse of fashion designer Wolfgang Joop and his label Wunderkind, but not this alone.
After being discovered by Joop in Potsdam at the age of 22, Franziska was sent to Model Managementin Hamburg, where she started her career and won the German "Elite Model Look" contest.
In her career she has had the honour of gracing the covers of such illustrious fashion magazines as Elle, Cosmopolitan and GQ. Nowadays she finds herself in the most exciting endeavour of her illustrious career, hosting the "Supermodel" show on Swiss TV channel 3+ .
Here she has found a glittering opportunity to prove her hosting skills hoping to move on to a new lucrative career ... gracing our television screens.
We interviewed our model of the month for December about her future plans...


You have hosted the Swiss “Supermodel” show, is this the first time you’re hosting a TV show?
Franziska: Yes it is the first time for me hosting on TV and right afterwards I hosted the „Stella Fashion Night“ which is the biggest Swiss fashion award. Both has been very exciting.

How did you like the atmosphere behind the show? How is it to work with Bruce Darnell?
Franziska: I really enjoyed working with such a great team. Bruce is incredible - a lot of „drama“ but he is very nice.

Generally, what’s your personal opinion about casting shows like ANTM and Supermodel?
Franziska: These shows can actually be a perfect entrée into the modeling industry due to the enormous press coverage. But the girls have to understand that modeling is a tough job and that a show like that itself doesn’t make them a star in the modeling industry. They have to keep on track after the show and have to prove what they have learned during the show.

Did you ever consider a next career as actress or TV host? Where do you see yourself in five years?
Franziska: To tell you the truth, I never thought about this but why not!?

How did you get started in the modeling business?
Franziska: Wolfgang Joop discovered me in my hometown when I was working as a waitress in a café. He sent me to Model Management and I applied for the German Elite Model Look finals which I have won.

What do you like most about modeling? What do you like least?
Franziska: Traveling! I love the locations but I hate to fly.

What are your favourite things to do in your free time?
Franziska: Taking a bath with a glass of red wine, or going to the playground with my daughter Mathilda or laying on the couch with my husband... and if there is still time left...shopping.

Out of all the places your career has taken you, where was the most memorable?
Franziska: This lodge in Namibia and the Angsana Velavaru Resort on the Maledives – unbelievable!

Do you have a mentor? Who? What is it about them that affects you? Why?
Franziska: I would not call him a mentor, but my husband is helping me a lot by giving his advice.

Where do you see yourself in ten years? What could be your next career?
Franziska: I wish I've learnt several foreign languages and I was a journalist. I wish my future job was about travelling, as I love traveling and meeting new people. This is my next dream to come true after Louis Vuitton!

Any advice for new models? What advice would you give other models starting out?
Franziska: A strong family background is half of the rent... and the girls should not believe everything what they have been told - positive and negative things included. They should never forget their school and have to learn what it means to make their own money which is not as easy as expected when earning quite a lot at such young age.

Franziska: Wiener Schnitzel & Bratkartoffeln (German fried potatoes).

Franziska: From classical music to Charts music... I like a lot of different musical styles.

What are your favorite 3 songs at the moment?
Franziska: Maria Mena..“All This Time“,“Just hold me“ & “Allein, Allein” by German “Polarkreis 18”.

If I were trapped on an island I'd take:
Franziska: Soap, my family and a satellite mobile phone.
