In 1998 Compagnie Financiere Richemont took a majority stake in Shanghai Tang.
In 2001 Raphael Le Masne de Chermont joins Shanghai Tang as ExecutiveChairman and the first London Flagship boutique opened on Sloane Street.
Offering ready-to-wear for women, men and children, as well as accessories and home ware, Shanghai Tang supports an international network of 43 boutiques, including the world’s largest lifestyle flagship – The Shanghai Tang Mansion, at 1 Duddell Street, Central, Hong Kong and its largest boutique, The Cathay Mansion in Shanghai, China.
David Tang set out the brand with the idea to rejuvenate Chinese fashion of the 1920s and 1930s. The fundamental design concept is inspired by traditional Han Chinese clothing combined with the modernity of the 21st century. The brand is noted for its use of bright colours.
