After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Arizona where he earned a degree in photography.

McGinn's career began as a freelance photographer, shooting for various magazines and newspapers. His work quickly gained recognition and he was soon hired by National Geographic to shoot for their magazine. He has since traveled around the world, capturing breathtaking images of landscapes, wildlife, and people. His work has been featured in numerous publications including Time Magazine, The New York Times, and The Guardian.

McGinn's photographs have also been exhibited in galleries around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Tate Modern in London. He has won numerous awards for his work including the International Photography Award and the Lucie Award for Outstanding Achievement in Photography.
