Nina Merikallio is a Finnish photographer and visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland. She is known for her unique and captivating images that explore the relationship between nature and humanity.

Merikallio was born in Helsinki in 1975 and grew up surrounded by the beauty of the Finnish landscape. From an early age, she was drawn to photography as a way to capture the beauty of her surroundings. After graduating from high school, she studied photography at the University of Art and Design Helsinki, where she developed her own unique style of photography.

Merikallio’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions around the world, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma in Helsinki, Finland; The Photographers’ Gallery in London; and The Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Her photographs have also been published in several books, including “The Nature of Things” (2006) and “The Human Touch” (2009).

In addition to her photographic work, Merikallio has also created video art installations that explore themes such as identity, memory, and nature. Her work has been exhibited at galleries throughout Europe and North America. In 2017, she was awarded the prestigious Ars Fennica Prize for her contribution to Finnish art.

Merikallio continues to be inspired by nature and its relationship with humanity. Through her work, she hopes to create a dialogue between people and their environment that will help foster a deeper understanding of our place within it.
