Nicky Onderwater is a Dutch photographer and visual artist based in Amsterdam. He is known for his unique style of photography, which combines elements of documentary, fashion, and fine art.

Born in the Netherlands in 1975, Onderwater developed an interest in photography at an early age. He studied at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague and graduated with a degree in photography. After graduation, he began working as a freelance photographer for various magazines and newspapers.

In 2003, Onderwater released his first book of photographs titled “The Dutch Landscape” which featured images from his travels throughout the Netherlands. This book was well-received by critics and established him as a respected photographer.

Since then, Onderwater has gone on to create several other books including “The Dutch Portrait” (2005), “The Dutch Street” (2007), and “The Dutch Moment” (2009). His work has been exhibited around the world including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Onderwater has also collaborated with numerous fashion designers such as Viktor & Rolf, Dries Van Noten, and Maison Margiela to create unique campaigns for their collections. In addition to his commercial work, he continues to pursue personal projects that explore themes such as identity, memory, and nostalgia.

Onderwater's work has been featured in publications such as Vogue, The New York Times Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Wallpaper*, and W Magazine among others. He currently lives and works in Amsterdam where he continues to create stunning photographs that capture moments of beauty from everyday life.
