Maarten van Viegen is a Dutch photographer and visual artist based in Amsterdam. He is best known for his unique and captivating images of the urban landscape, which often feature a combination of architecture, nature, and people.

Van Viegen was born in the Netherlands in 1975. He studied photography at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague, where he graduated with honors in 2000. After graduating, he began working as a freelance photographer and quickly gained recognition for his work. His photographs have been featured in numerous publications including National Geographic, The New York Times Magazine, and Time Magazine.

Van Viegen's work has been exhibited around the world, including at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. He has also received numerous awards for his photography, including the Dutch Photo Award (2005) and the World Press Photo Award (2006).

In addition to his photography career, Van Viegen is also an active member of several organizations that promote art and culture. He is a board member of the Dutch Photography Foundation and a founding member of the Amsterdam-based collective “The Photographers”. He also serves as an advisor to several international organizations such as Unicef Netherlands and Amnesty International Netherlands.

Van Viegen's work continues to be highly sought after by collectors around the world. His photographs are held in private collections as well as public institutions such as The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
