James Whitmore is an American photographer and visual artist based in New York City. He is best known for his vibrant and colorful photographs of urban landscapes, street scenes, and people.

Whitmore was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1975. He grew up surrounded by art and photography, as his father was a professional photographer. From a young age, Whitmore was fascinated by the power of photography to capture moments in time and tell stories.

He attended the School of Visual Arts in New York City where he studied photography and digital media. After graduating, he began working as a freelance photographer for various publications including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and National Geographic.

In addition to his commercial work, Whitmore has also developed a strong portfolio of personal projects that explore themes such as identity, culture, and the human condition. His work has been exhibited at galleries around the world including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Whitmore's photographs have been featured in numerous books including Street Photography Now (Thames & Hudson) and The Art of Street Photography (Prestel).
