South African model, Reeva Steenkamp died in a Valentine’s Day shooting and her boyfriend, Oscar Pistorius, a Paralympic runner who is also known as the “Blade Runner” has been charged with her murder.
The model, it has been rumored, had been looking forward to Valentine’s Day and urged her followers to “get excited” about the holiday on Wednesday and then she tweeted this happy message. “It’s a beautiful day! Make things happen. Starting my day off with a yummy healthy shake from my boo.” “Boo” in this case refers to Oscar. Doesn’t look like there was anything amiss there, does it?
Who was Reeva Steenkamp? She was a bikini model who had a promising future in the modeling industry. Her agency, Capacity Relations, put it this way. “She was the kindest, sweetest human being, an angel on earth and will be sorely missed.” Hagen Engler, editor of FHM magazine described her as being “just a great, fun presence of a person.”
Oscar Pistorius was a bigger than life athlete. He had his legs amputated just below the knees when he was a toddler but that never stopped him from becoming a world class athlete. He runs on specially made carbon fiber blades and he sees himself as a role model to many. In an interview with CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight” he said, “Becoming an international sportsman, there’s a lot of responsibility that comes with that, …..you know, that there are kids out there, especially, that look up to you….”
So what happened here? Details of domestic violence have emerged and so has rumours of jealousy. The facts are sketchy at best and no one knows for sure what really took place on the morning of February 14th but one thing’s for sure, a beautiful and vibrant personality is dead and her boyfriend has been charged with her murder.
Nike who sponsored Pistorius pulled the ad on Thursday. It contained this chilling message. “I am the bullet in the chamber.” On November 2011, Pistorius also tweeted a photo of himself at a gun range with the words stating that he has a “96% headshot over 300m from 50 shots! Bam!” Are those words going to come back and haunt him?
The model’s last words were chilling as well. She gave an interview to a leading South African news site about Valentine’s Day. She said that the day wasn’t just for lovers but for people that you care about which included friends and the elderly.
She never saw Valentine’s Day come around, her life was cut short in a matter of minutes on that Thursday morning while another’s hangs by the balance. Was it a twisted outcome of love that had to do with jealousy or as Pistorius claims, an accident?
