The million-dollar babes

The US-based business magazine “Forbes” released a new list of the best paid fashion models worldwide. The list is based on how much the models earned in the period of one year, from June 2012 through June 2013.
The first place was taken once again, for the seventh time, by the Brazilian beauty Gisele Bundchen. The 33 year-old mother –of-two earned 33,5 million Euro throughout one year, in comparison to the second placed model Miranda Kerr who just earned 5,4 million Euro in the same period.
Maybe this big difference of earnings is due to Gisele Bundchen not only earning her money as a model, but also as a designer and shareholder. She owns shares of the Brazilian shoe manufacturer Grendene, with whom she collaborated in the past as a designer for their brand Ipaneama. Furthermore, Gisele launched a clothing and accessories line for C&A Brazil, a lingerie line for HOPE and her own line of beauty products, Sejaa, which generate roughly $1 billion per year in sales and of which Gisele gets a percentage of that.
But Gisele Bundchen isn’t the only model who realized that she can earn more money aside from modeling. It is no luck that the second placed Miranda Kerr and Gisele’s follower at the Victoria’s Secret show also took the opportunity to earn more through bringing her name to the market. Just back in 2009 Ms. Kerr was ranked 9th with earnings of 3 million US Dollar. The same year in October the Australian beauty launched her own brand of organic skincare products, Kora Organics, with George Moskos, and today her earnings grew more than 2 million Euro.
The third place was taken over by Adriana Lima with an earning of 4,5 million Euro, closely followed by British model Kate Moss with an earning of 4,3 million Euro.
If we go back to the year 2007, Miss Moss was the second highest paid model in the world, with estimated earnings of 9 million Euro. But exactly the same year Kate Moss was hired to design an exclusive collection for Topshop, and it is no secret that Topshop reportedly paid Moss 3.5 million Euro for her work.
Due to this fact, it would be very interesting to know how much the models are really earning just out of her modeling jobs. If Forbes would create the list considering only what the models earn just out of their modeling jobs, the list would definitely look different.
