Michelle Obama To Host Fashion Education Workshop At The White House


First lady of the united states Michelle Obama, will soon welcome a group of fashion students and designers to the White House for an exclusive educational workshop. The five-hour event, which will be held on Oct. 8, will include individual workshops, as well as a luncheon with a panel discussion and remarks by the First Lady.

According to an email written by White House social secretary Jeremy Bernard that was obtained by WWD, the White House delivers the details of the event, "The purpose of this event is to bring members of the fashion industry to the White House and enlighten, educate and mentor the next generation of fashion leaders."

A White House official told WWD "On October 8, the White House will hold a fashion education workshop that will connect students with leading fashion professionals from designers to magazine editors to fashion technologists to show young people what it takes to succeed, and how important it is for the next generation to commit to their education."

Obama is a longtime supporter of young American designers and a well known fashion enthusiast. The workshop will precede the White House's Celebration of Design reception, which Naeem Khan, Jason Wu, Diane von Furstenberg and Thakoon are slated to attend. Maria Cornejo, Prabal Gurung, Reed Krakoff and Bibhu Mohapatra are among the designers who will be participating in the workshop with students attending from various colleges and universities in Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and Washington.
