He succeed stylist Nicola Formichetti in 2013, and allowed the brand to make a discreet return to the fashion scene in just a few seasons thanks to sensual and bold creations.

'I am grateful for having had the pleasure of working with David and I thank him for his powerful vision of the modern Mugler woman, which has drawn a new expression of the brand,' said Virginie Courtin-Clarins, managing director of Mugler fashion, in a press statement. 'I wish him the best of luck with his future ambitions.'

Cadwallader, studied Architecture at Cornell University in the United States. He started out with Marc Jacobs and worked a lot behind the scenes at brands such as Loewe, J. Mendel and Narciso Rodriguez, where he later rose to become the design director of women's clothing and accessories. More recently, he was design director of the pre-collections at Acne Studios.

'The Clarins Group is very happy to welcome Casey Cadwallader to Mugler,' Sandrine Groslier, president of the Clarins Fragrance Group, Mugler Fashion and Fragrance, said in a press release. 'His determination and unique sensitivity to Mugler's artistic and experimental heritage will enable us to pursue the renewal of the house in the long term. We are confident that his personal vision and talent will position Mugler among the most sought-after avant-garde fashion brands of today.'

Cadwallader is expected to design his collections in a more organic way and will present his first Mugler collection for Fall/Winter 2018-2019.
