Victoria's Secret model Karolina Kurkova has been voted the World's Sexiest Woman by E! television, a mere five months after being bashed as "too fat" to walk the runway.
Kurkova, 24, beat out fellow Victoria's Secret supermodels Adriana Lima and Gisele Bündchen, as well as Oscar winner Angelina Jolie. Kurkova, a leggy 5'11" Czech supermodel, was recently ranked by Forbes magazine as one of the world's highest paid models, raking in an estimated $5 million in 2007. Bündchen, 28, topped that list, with estimated 2007 earnings of $35 million.
Ironically, Kurkova ignited a media firestorm in June, after she appeared looking slightly heavier than usual in a bikini during Sao Paulo Fashion Week. A local Brazilian paper blasted Karolina as "too fat" to walk the runway and described how "shocked" the audience was when she appeared with "back fat and cellulite on her butt." The incident sparked a heated media discussion on whether the fashion industry sets unrealistic standards of beauty.
Recently, Karolina--who graced the runway during the 2008 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Miami--caused a stir when rumors swirled about her unusually smooth-looking belly button. Victoria's Secret reps have confirmed that Kurkova has no belly button, and that one is edited in whenever her mid-section is photographed. However, this minor "imperfection" hardly seems to have hurt Karolina's sizzling career.
