MAYDAY! Andersen slinks out of clink

Watch out, Naomi - a new catwalk hellcat is scratching and clawing her way to the top. Sports Illustrated swimsuit sexpot and May Andersen this week became the latest supermodel charged with attacking one of the little people - after the intoxicated Nordic blonde pummelled a flight attendant during a trip from Amsterdam to Miami on 21st April. The Danish diva, who lives in New York, allegedly argued with the male steward throughout the trans-Atlantic flight on Martinair to Miami International Airport Thursday. Then she laid a jet-set smackdown on the hapless plane worker, "violently" striking him. The flight crew eventually notified authorities of the model's malevolence, prompting officers from the Miami-Dade County police to meet the plane at the gate at about 6 p.m. . The prospect of jail did little to calm the raging beauty, and she "continued her belligerent, loud and violent behavior in the presence of the officers," according to a police statement. May was immediately taken to jail and charged with simple battery, resisting arrest without violence and disorderly intoxication. All the charges are misdemeanors. Her mug shot shows a surly-looking ice queen who could use a little sleep and a little makeup. Since the Denmark native is a foreign national, she could face immigration issues, including deportation, said department spokeswoman Detective Mary Walters. May has lived in New York since 1999 and is being represented by her Elite modeling agency. The Scandinavian siren is most famous for posing in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue in both 2003 and 2004. Cathy Gould, the director of Elite North America, said the outburst was out of character for Andersen. She does not have a reputation in the New York fashion world for being tempestuous, like Naomi Campbell. "She's a lovely, sweet girl," Gould said. "I've never had any problem with her. "We've been working with May for the last year, and our experiences have been very positive. I've never had any trouble." She was released the following day on $3000 bond and her lawyer released a statement saying Andersen was innocent but according to some insider rumors May shares her affectation for hard drugs with Kate Moss.
The Victoria's Secret model who was once romantically linked to "Jackass" wildman Steve O and actor Stephen Dorff, has been spotted around town partying with the likes of freckly film phenom Lindsay Lohan, hotel heiress Nicky Hilton and rap mogul Damon Dash. Andersen's arrests come just weeks after Campbell was arrested for hitting a maid with a phone. Ironically, Naomi Campbell and Andersen have recently been at each other's throats, figuratively. Naomi backed out of a show during last fall's Fashion Week in a snit because Andersen was picked to wear the $41 million centerpiece diamond-studded dress. May's off-the-runway life was last in the news in 2003, when she was awarded $2 million after her Range Rover was rammed by an MTA cleaning truck while she was heading home from a night of partying at Moomba in 2000. She suffered a broken pelvis, but made a full recovery. She was involved in an incident during Paris Fashion Week 2003 when she and fellow fashion plate Devon Aoki were attacked by a man and sprayed with Mace, according to several published reports.
