| Notes: | - Karen was born in Vlaardingen, near Rotterdam and was raised in Den Haag.
- When Karen was 17, she was looking through a magazine and noticed details of a modelling contest in Amsterdam. Karen wore braces on her teeth at that time and dismissed the idea immediately. However, unknown to her, a friend entered Karen without her knowledge. Karen was invited by the agency to attend the competition and she won.
- She took part in the 1985 Elite 'Look of the Year' contest and came second, after which she was signed by Elite Paris.
- Karen has a tulip named after her and there is also a toy doll made in her likeness, along with Claudia Schiffer and Naomi Campbell.
- She has released a CD-ROM and video on beauty tips.
- Karen has a sister called Saskia who is an actress.
- She speaks six languages - Dutch, English, French, German, Latin and Greek. - -- Karen is very charitable and tries to help others less fortunate than herself. In 1995, she bought a château in France and set up a scheme to provide holidays there for underprivileged children.
- Karen starred in the French film "Un vol, la nuit". |
