| Über: | Owen Gaster was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1970. His family moved to England, and he studied at the Epsom College of Art and Design, graduating in 1991 followed by the Hastings Technical College Fashion Design course, graduating in 1992. He started by working for Paul Harden, shoemakers.
He decided that fashion was the way to go, and his first collection was Fall 1994 when he presented clothes made with sharpest tailoring, slashed thigh trousers, and very short skirts. His modern edgy clothes are converting a new generation.
He works in a converted granary in Sussex, England, where he is far away from the fashion crowd.
His work has not changed too much over nearly a decade, he still works in extremes of construction and fabrication: jackets with fiercely peaking shoulders, or high-standing collars and abbreviated trousers cut to sharp points at the knee which come across like tailored armour.
In Spring/Summer 1997, Gaster included heat resistant textiles in his collection, which changed colour, looking like oil on water.
Owen Gaster has reinvented the concept of retro on his own futuristic terms.
Since 1994 Owen has used Jungle music and worked especially with DJs like Bluez and Krust. Bluez has created the music for his fashion shows. |
